More than 300,000 strong population of the small island nation of the Maldives have been living in fear of total extinction for quite some years now. BBC website describes the Maldives “as vulnerable to a rise in sea levels associated with global warming”. Such descriptions spark fear in the mind of every Maldivian.  The country’s current president’s own warnings that the Maldives is “likely to disappear under the waves if the current pace of climate change continues to raise sea levels”, increased this fear. It is well known that the UN’s Inter- Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has made publicity about the threat of rising sea levels to island states such as the Maldives. The media has run many articles puffing up this notion that the islands are doomed. Now, the most recent saga in this controversial issue is the news that Times Atlas is going to print the World Map without Maldives from its upcoming 14th edition. This was mentioned in a blog post of UK newspaper the Telegraph. However, this blog post, which was written by a climate change sceptic, James Delingpole, later turned out to be a spoof.

Nature Geoscience, one of the top journals in its field published a study on projected sea level rise confirming the conclusions of the 2007 report from the IPCC. It used data over the last 22,000 years to predict that sea level would rise by between 7cm and 82cm by the end of the century. However, Nature Geoscience has been forced to withdraw this study, due two separate technical mistakes in the paper, which were pointed out by other scientists after it was published. A formal retraction was required, rather than a correction, because the errors undermined the study’s conclusion according to Mark Siddall, from the Earth Sciences Department at the University of Bristol. The IPCC said that sea level would probably rise by 18cm-59cm by 2100, though stressed this was based on incomplete information about ice sheet melting and that the true rise could be higher.Many scientists criticised the IPCC approach as too conservative, and several papers since have suggested that sea level could rise more. Martin Vermeer of the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland and Stefan Rahmstorf of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany published a study that projected a rise of 0.75m to 1.9m by 2100. The paper – entitled “Constraints on Future sea-Level rise from past sea-level change” – used fossil coral data and temperature records derived from ice-core measurements to reconstruct how sea level has fluctuated with temperature since the peak of the last ice age, and to project how it would rise with warming over the next few decades. In a statement the authors of the paper said: “Since publication of our paper we have become aware of two mistakes which impact the detailed estimation of future sea level rise. This means that we can no longer draw firm conclusions regarding 21st century sea level rise from this study without further work. “One mistake was a miscalculation; the other was not to allow fully for temperature change over the past 2,000 years. Because of these issues we have retracted the paper and will now invest in the further work needed to correct these mistakes.” In the Nature Geoscience retraction, in which Siddall and his colleagues explain their errors, Vermeer and Rahmstorf are thanked for “bringing these issues to our attention”. Perhaps the most damming evidence of fraud against IPCC is the uncompromising verdict of Swedish geologist and physicist Nils-Axel Mörner, formerly chairman of the INQUA International Commission on Sea Level Change. The verdict of Dr Mörner, who for 35 years has been using every known scientific method to study sea levels all over the globe, is that all this talk about the sea rising is nothing but a colossal scare story.

The UK Channel 4 documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle produced by British television producer Martin Durkin, presents scientists, economists, politicians, writers, and others who dispute the scientific consensus regarding anthropogenic global warming. The film’s basic premise is that the current scientific opinion on the anthropogenic causes of global warming has numerous scientific flaws, and that vested monetary interests in the scientific establishment and the media discourage the public and the scientific community from acknowledging or even debating this. The film won best documentary at the 2007 Io Isabella International Film Week. My conclusion based on all of these scientific studies, is that it is too early to decide a nation’s fate merely based on computer models. Also, it is striking to learn that while they give such warnings, they are not talking of contingency plans once the nation is submerged. Where they will be located, or how they will deal with the situation of climate refugees.

I reckon that every one wish to live longer and to be younger as long as possible. This aspiration of humankind has been a fascination of many people, especially wise and intelligent people for -maybe- thousands of years. For generations, humans used various methods to live longer and prolong and maintain youthfulness.

In this modern era, some scientists  have been busy just researching this. This article is intended to research on how to live longer and methods that have been proven to be effective to maintain youthfulness. Old is relative, defined as the advanced years of life when a person has reached the stage of considerably lowered due to fading vitality and muscular atrophy.

To maintain youthfulness and slow down aging process, one should think in many ways and shape the lifestyle in a way that facilitates this wish. Many companies advertise superficial measures they say will regain your youthfulness through some skin care products. But it is vital to understand that to slow down aging process, just taking care of skin is not enough. It should be a holistic approach. In short, he/ she should refrain from doing certain harmful things and adopt a lifestyle that is more health conscious. To live younger and longer, there are things to do and there are things that one should not do. I will try to list the most important tips under these two main categories.

Things to Do

Most of the things that a person can do in order to slow down the aging process are either related to healthy food or exercise.  In addition to that, there are some protective measures one should not neglect to take when necessary and also skin care. I will look at these four categories separately under this section.

Food/ Nutrition

Overall, eating healthy food can boost the human body’s immune system and strengthen functions of the body.

Anti Oxidants

By definition, antioxidants such as vitamins A and C are substances that can help prevent the effects of free radical damage in the body. In other words, antioxidants can neutralize the process of oxidation and cellular damage which contributes to aging and disease.

Some foods are richer than other food in antioxidants. Consuming these foods on a regular basis can help reverse signs of aging process. Also, antioxidants can prevent or even reverse various disease processes such as cancer and heart disease, plus reduce blood pressure.

Berries

In addition to being deliciously sweet, berries such as raspberries, blueberries and strawberries offer an abundance of antioxidants called  proanthocyanidins.

Dodi (originally Imad El-Din) was the eldest son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Alfayed who has been living and investing in UK since 1974.

The prime driver behind this conspiracy theory is none other than dodi’s father Mohamed Alfayed. Fayed believed that the driver, Heri Paul (possibly an agent of  British Secret Intelligent Service – MI6), had plotted with the Royal Family to kill Diana and Dodi. On 2 October 2007, an inquest was opened in London. On 18 February 2008, Mohamed Alfayed himself wasn’t very fond of British governments, as for years, he unsuccessfully sought British citizenship. Both Labour and Conservative Home Secretaries rejected his applications.

Fayed accused Prince Philip and Prince Charles of killing Diana and Dodi because Charles was furious that his ex-wife was dating Dodi. Many suspect that the British Royal Family was deeply worried about the prospect of the mother the future King (Prince William) of Britain will be married to a Muslim and possibly having a Muslim Brother. There were rumours that infact Princess Diana was pregnant at the time of her untimely death.

Most recently, the conspiracy theory that Princess Diana and Dodi were murdered by the British establishment, was further fueled with the release of the documentary named “Unlawful Killing” directed by Keith Allen with detailed information and images. It was released in this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Some of the images included in this documentary were never released in UK. Therefore, it is not surprising to learn that this documentary is banned in UK.

In the light of the documentary there are some very important unanswered questions or mysteries surrounding the accident that lead to the death of Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi. One such mystery was that there were other vehicles apart from paparazzi that followed Diana’s car. Another mystery was why in the whole of Paris, CCTV cameras were turned off just on that route from Titz Hotel to the  Pond de l’Alma road tunnel. Also, questions are raised by the fact that no one from the British Royal Family was summoned for the testimony of inquest of Diana’s death. Why there was no autopsy done. Some witnessed a loud bang just before the accident. In addition to that, in the note Diana wrote four years before her death saying her husband was trying to kill her planing an accident in her car.

Conspiracy Theories (2): 9/11 Attack Was Not Carried Out by Al-Qaeda

This is not what I believe, but it is a conspiracy theory on September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Centre in New York. The attack destroyed the 110 story (1727 ft) twin towers. Many architects and scientists argue that 9/11 was not carried out by terrorists, leaving us to believe that it was carried out by those who directly benefited politically and militarily.

There are some very suspicious points raised by the conspiracy theorists. One such theory was that the twin towers did not collapse because of airplanes, but by bombs. That there are numerous eye witness accounts of those who escaped the towers that  they heard explosions inside the building (much lower than where the planes truck) as attempted to get out of the building. Many architects and scientists even maintain that a planes fuel cannot produce enough heat to melt steel of the two buildings that collapsed.

The other big argument is about the people accused of being hijackers. After the September 11 attacks, the “Loose Change” documentary stated that all of the hijackers were in fact alive in other countries. They raised the point that how did the passports of the terrorists survive the explosion? In the aftermath of the attacks, passports and identification were found as evidence. Many skeptics question how identification made out of paper survived an explosion, which destroyed buildings.

There are also arguments on whether aluminum planes can penetrate steel structure of World Trade Centre. Commercial airplanes’ frames are constructed with a very light aluminum material, in order to make it easier to fly. Theorists maintain that there is no possible way an airplane can do as much damage as it did to the Twin Towers as it did. Theorists believe that missiles or explosives were used to ensure the buildings collapsed.

When asked whether he has “advanced knowledge of 9/11”, George W. Bush simply could not answer that question. That gives another reason for conspiracy theorists that 9/11 was an inside job by US government.

Conspiracy Theories (1): Area 51, the backyard of Aliens

In this series of conspiracy theories, I will try to focus on the most talked about conspiracy theories that have been ‘hovering’ above us for a long time. The biggest reason why these theories have been regarded as conspiracy in nature is the complete silence and secrecy by governments, especially those of USA, Russia and other powerful countries.

Area 51 is a top secret US military base located in southern Nevada, 133 km north-north west of Las Vegas. It is also known as the Secret UFO Headquarters for UFO and Paranormal Activities. It is called area 51 because it is in grid no 51 of the Nevada test site. Area 51 is controlled by the United States Air force Test Flight Centre. The base was created in 1954 and is used for testing exotic aircraft and weapons.

The first flight test was carried out to test the secret U-2 spy plane that was used to fly missions over Soviet Union. After that other flights, including SR-71, A-12, D-21, and F-117A were also tested and housed in Area 51. In 1980s the base became a larger base along with runway of 6 miles. Then the mysterious lights began to appear and the US government closed many viewpoints overlooking the base.

A physicist named Bob lazar who worked at another military base located south of Area 51 claimed that Area 51 was used as a testing ground for extremely advanced aircraft and UFOs they got by trading with aliens. Many people believed Area 51 was indeed a secret test site for UFOs because of numerous sightings of lights in the night sky.
